So yes, as you may notice today is not Wednesday anymore, but I decided to share with you my adventures from the local farmer’s market.
Oh how I adore Gainesville <3
I want to discover something new each week and share with you my findings.
Hokay so, in the first main picture you will see red bell peppers, a zinger leaf (which tastes like lemon!), and garlic chives. I’ve never had a zinger leaf before but it tastes like lemon. I’d imagine it’d be yummy crushed up in a salad, or even topped on a veggie scrambled egg breakfast. A lovely friendly lady gave one to me to try.
The garlic chives were $1 and I add them to everything now. They’re so simple and add such balance to flavors.
I decided to make a vegetable medley of broccolini purchased from Trader Joe’s, red bell pepper (kept them raw!!! lots of Vit. C), organic corn, garlic chives, and some black and red pepper flakes. Sprinkle a bit of lemon juice and sriracha and yes plz I am happy.
(FYI Trader Joe’s has their own brand of sriracha, which yes is a tad different tasting, but it doesn’t have all the same preservatives as standard sriracha so for now I enjoy it. Even though it is a tad less spicy, I can always add more red pepper flakes or cayenne.)
Paired with the veggie medley was wild alaskan salmon and jasmine brown rice. Can’t forget the avocado ;)
Lots of lemonnnn juice!!
My first official Gainesville farmer’s market wasn’t complete until I got a kombucha, brewed locally of course. I got the elderberry ginger flavor, which was delightful. I was able to sample a ginger chili flavor too that I will probably get next time.
I’m glad the prices here are actually reasonable and the quality is delightful too. I must say that one of my favorite things about this farmer’s market is the fact I can bike there! And be there within 5 minutes!!
Next week I’m thinking local raw honey and maybe even some muscadine grapes…
Stay tuned my friends.
