Savory Juicin’
Today’s juice was more on the savory side. I wanted to throw in some variety compared to the past few days of typically fruit laden juices. I really enjoyed this as it was not overbearingly sweet as some juices may be and it was a tad spicy from the ginger and garlic. Yum.
I was also very excited to be consuming raw garlic. I heard how incredibly good for you raw garlic was. Some of the health benefits:
Boosts immune system, lower blood pressure, prevent heart disease, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, prevention of cancer, and so much more gah! One thing that stood out to me was the prevention of colds. Apparently if you’re feeling a cold coming on, eating raw garlic can prevent the cold from even appearing.
I would like to increase my raw garlic consumption in my overall diet as I’m quite keen on the benefits.
Keep in mind that perhaps you may want to monitor your fruit and vegetable ratios and to juice what your body needs rather than solely what sounds good. Juicing only apples and beets, for example, a few times a day may become overwhelming on the body since they are both very high in sugar.
When you juice, for example, 5 carrots, 2 apples, 1 beet, 1 orange, (and whatever else you may think of) that’s a lot of sugar people! Have you ever sat down and were able to eat all the stated above foods in one sitting? Probably not. The fiber in the whole foods is what helps keeps you full which is why I am more a fan of eating the entire fruit (or at least making a smoothie). It’s recommended to only drink about 1/2 cup of fruit juice per day. I still bought a juicer as the health benefits to me are worth it. Yes, of course you are loading your body up with nutrients which is beneficial (and why I’m a fan of juicing). Everything in moderation. Also the juices that I make are from organic, whole foods, not just from concentrate or what not.
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1/2 sweet potato
bunch of carrots
1/2 red bell pepper
1 beet
small chunk ginger
small chunk garlic
small handful of cilantro (optional)
Juice away!
I want to mention on a good note, I’ve been noticing my stomach issues have been subsiding from juicing. I don’t really get upset stomachs anymore and my digestion is a lot more efficient. Benefits of juicing! Woo.
My new glass straw!
I’m excited to make these into muffins as they will be more of a savory-sweet muffin! Perfect dinner companion, but I will probably eat these constantly throughout the day as I do with any type of food. Pancakes are better at night!
Or maybe since there’s garlic, I’ll add these to a homemade pasta sauce or even lasagna! Mmm cannot wait.
Wheat grass juice tomorrow!
